Paediatric Cardiology Diagnostic Services
Approximately 8 in 1000 babies are born with heart defects.
A good number of them do not need any surgical intervention. But it is essential that all of them have a complete assessment by a Paediatric cardiologist, with some necessary investigations.
Both routine 2D and Doppler echocardiogram for children and advanced echocardiography including 3D/4D-echo, trans-esophageal echocardiogram, contrast echocardiogram, functional newborn echo are routinely performed at Jupiter Hospital. Advanced imaging like CT angiogram and MR angiogram for congenital heart defects can be performed if needed. Other diagnostic facilities like Paediatric electrocardiogram, treadmill test, HUTT are available. Diagnostic cardiac catherisation is performed in all age groups of patients in the state-of-the art cardiac catheterisation laboratory.
Paediatric Cardiac Surgery
At Jupiter Hospital, we have a dedicated Paediatric cardiac surgical team committed to surgical treatment of congenital heart disease right from newborn to adult age groups. Surgical care is available round the clock to cater to the needs of patients. The team, comprising of the surgeon, cardiologist, anaesthetist, intensivist and the perfusionist, has all the necessary expertise and experience in handling complex heart surgeries in all age group of patients. Surgeries such as total correction of ToF, closure of heart defects (ASD, VSD, PDA), repair of coarctation of aorta, valve repairs/ replacement and other complex Paediatric cardiac surgeries like TAPVC repair, arterial switch operation, surgery for single ventricle physiology are performed. The Unit is equipped with facilities to perform emergency life saving cardiac surgeries round the clock.
Paediatric Cardiac Intensive Care
Care of the baby before and after surgery or other intervention is as important as performing a complex heart surgery. Hence we have a dedicated team of cardiac intensive care specialists, Paediatric cardiac surgeons, Paediatric cardiologists, neonatologists and cardiac nurses round the clock to cater to patient needs. ICU is equipped with state of the art equipments
including advanced cardiac monitors, ventilators, open care incubators, infusion pumps and other instruments to provide continuous care and handle emergencies. Strict infection control practices, barrier nursing and 1:1 nurse-patient ratio are followed in the ICU.
Paediatric Cardiac Interventions
Some infants and children can be permanently treated with non-surgical techniques. A few birth defects like ASD, VSD and PDA can be treated without surgery.
Recovery is faster and the child will not have a scar or the memory of the procedure. Typical stay in the hospital is limited only to 2-3 days. A few other complex birth defects also can be treated without surgery.
Hospital has a dedicated Paediatric cardiac catheterisation lab with all necessary facilities to perform such procedures.
