The bone marrow, which is primarily found inside the long bones of your limbs, is a dark brown, semi-solid tissue that is responsible for producing stem cells and platelets. Bone marrow consists of fat cells, blood cells, immune cells and other compounds responsible for clot formation. The health of your bone marrow depends predominantly upon the food you eat, and this is the reason why people suffering from bone marrow related diseases are often recommended to make healthy dietary changes. Experts specialising in bone marrow transplant in India also recommend healthy diet modifications to patients undergoing the transplant.
There are many foods that can help to Boost your bone marrow strength, however, most of you do not know about this. In this blog, we have listed some common foods that can help to make your bone marrow healthy with the help of experts from the best hospital in India.
Foods rich in proteins - Our body breaks down protein-rich foods into Amino acids that are responsible for cellular development and growth. On average, a healthy human requires 46 to 56 grams of protein every single day in order to ensure that all the tissues of the body, including the bone marrow, are healthy. Protein is primarily found in food items like meat, egg, fish, legumes and sauteed vegetables. It is due to this very reason that patients undergoing a bone marrow transplant are recommended to enhance their protein intake. Such patients should take 1.4 to 1.5 grams of protein per kilogram of their body weight. This will not only help to make new bone marrow but also repair the unhealthy one.
Iron-rich foods - One of the most important functions of bone marrow is to generate red blood cells which are loaded with iron. These cells are responsible for carrying oxygen to different parts of your body and hence it is very important to ensure their healthy levels. This can be easily done by including iron-rich foods in your diet and taking approximately 10 to 20 milligrams of it every day. As per leading experts, our body only takes about 10% of the total iron that is consumed in the form of food and a major portion of it is utilised by the bone marrow to generate red blood cells. Iron is mostly found in foods that come from animal sources, such as liver, organ meat and shellfish. Vegetarian people, too have options like nuts, seeds and green leafy vegetables.
Folic acid - Most of you must not be knowing this but, B Vitamin Folic Acid is also very important for your bone marrow and plays a major role in the production of red blood cells. If you have a deficiency of this nutrient, it puts you at a higher risk of developing megaloblastic anaemia, which is marked by the abnormally high production of red blood cells in the body. On average, a grown-up requires 0.2 to 0.4 milligrams of Folic acid every single day and this is derived from food like brown rice, Brussels, spinach and chickpeas.
Vitamin B-6 - Also known as pyridoxine, Vitamin B-6 plays a role in haemoglobin formation. Apart from this, it also helps to produce energy that is required by your cells for sustenance, and this involves your bone marrow as well. You need to take at least 1.2 to 1.4 milligrams of Vitamin every day and this can be derived from poultry, fish, grains, fortified cereals and milk.
If you want to know more about bone marrow transplant get the procedure done you should definitely consult experts from Indore. Bone marrow transplant cost in Indore is also comparatively lower than in other cities, making it the leading choice of patients all across India.
